TORI LYNN is a Georgia girl by heart, growing up in Effingham County (outside of Savannah, GA), she was able to appreciate things you don’t often see in bigger cities. She was a bit of a troublemaker as a child, but thankfully had a loving family who dealt with her shenanigans. She’s a graduate of Georgia Southern University where she met her husband and together they have a rescue pup, Kodah… who’s really more Garfield than Lassie. Working in radio for almost a decade, she’s been given the opportunity to meet tons of different people. Through doing so, she noticed there were quite of few women who mentioned abusive relationships and heard their heartbreaking stories. So she did some research. For more than 15 years, South Carolina has ranked among the top 10 in the nation for women being killed by domestic abuse. To break that down, every 12 days a woman in South Carolina dies from domestic abuse.
That’s why she partnered with a local women’s shelter who not only house abused women, but their children, and even their animals. The donation drive is called IN THE CLUTCH and here’s how you can help. If you have a purse you no longer use, give it new life. Next time you’re at the store, pick up an extra bottle of shampoo or extra box of feminine care items, put them in your gently used purse, and donate it to one of our many donation locations across the Lowcountry. At the end of June, Tori Lynn will go around collecting the purses and donate everything to THRIVE SC.
On-Air: Weekdays 3pm-7pm
JAY SHADIX was born in Toledo, Ohio but finally made his way to South Carolina at age 17. As Jay likes to put it, he’s “Northern by birth, Southern by choice”. After graduating from Goose Creek High school, where he met his wife Brenna, Jay spent 4 years in the US Army as a Cannon Crew Member.
Since Jay has always been fascinated by sound and music, he studied audio engineering in Orlando, Florida and then worked at recording studios in Charleston and Greensboro, North Carolina. Eventually, Jay found his way into radio and has worked for stations in St. Louis, Missouri and Seattle, Washington as well as Charleston. Although he’s lived in 16 cities in 3 different countries, Jay believes the Lowcountry is the best place on earth for him and Brenna to raise their daughter, Amber, and son Tristan. And if you run into Jay while you’re out and about (he’s easy to spot at 6’8″), be sure to ask him “how y’all are?”
